15 Things I learned the FIrst Day of My Book Fair

15 Things I Learned the First Day of My Book Fair.

I thought a few of you may chuckle and a few new clerks may enjoy the what NOT to do.

1. Do not put within reach any book which contain props- they will open the plastic and take out the prop.

2. Do not ring up 5 books before you ACTUALLY see the money!

3. Do not accept folded crumpled, balled up, or otherwise mutilated money- make the child smooth an hand to you , just like a real store! Hahaha.

4. DO have a merchandiser come an set-up!! Easy and looks fabulous!

5. Install an extra set of eyes in back of head.

6. Lock up everything small.

7. Do not let children make 10 small purchases trying to spend all money- Once done in line come back tomorrow! (this is a time and flow killer) .

8. Take a classroom management class (your gonna need it).

9. Set out clear direction for teachers (and assume the will NOT be followed...hahahha).

10. If it is in your budget install motion lasers to catch infiltrators when your not there (even if tutors are there after you leave).

11. Wear ear muffs while ringing up children, as it will drown out all the other students while your trying to count change.

12. Hire an off duty Police for loss prevention (bribe the Cop with cookies ).

13. Be prepared for an emergency drill in middle of fair – this was great fun!

14. If your last class simply will not leave for you to count money and take to designated person- well I just do not know what to say other than “Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr” AND Don't do what I did.......(count money with class present) .

15. Most of all have fun, enjoy the energy of excitement the children generate and make some $$$.
